Blackout: Playlist Male Gaze
We asked Matt Jones, vocalist/guitarist of the San Fransisco outfit Male Gaze to create a playlist based on the theme of Blackout. This is what he came up with:
The Stooges - Down On The Street
This song always gets me hungry for mayhem.
Chrome - Eyes On Mars
Racing towards absolution/a brick wall/the next party.
Jack Name - Running After Ganymede
From the Los Angeles Prince of Jovian Orbit, a night flight fugue.
Tangarine Dream - Love On A Real Train
Still the shit after all these years. Nothing welcomes the night like this glimmering bauble.
Damaged Bug - Cough Pills
Because nothing says blackout like “the medication you keep under the sink” while pulsing along at a heart.
Suicide- Ghost Rider
The insistent futurism of this track pulsing through your body at maximum volume is what dance music should have become…alas. In my perfect night it would be the pinnacle…and 40 minutes long.
Sunwatchers - Eusubius
The clumsy grace of a too-drunk walk home with someone you’re crazy about, losing your balance on an emotional tightrope and falling straight into effusive praise…and looking back with no regrets in the morning.
Nico - No One Is There
An invitation to winter sung from a fjord, cradling a child drowned in the surf. Kinda the turning point of the night for serotonin too.
The Flying Burrito Brothers - Wheels
I hope they play this song at my funeral - I imagine it will be stuck in my head “when my time’s almost up”. Country music somehow is comforting when you’re wasted.
Beach House - Levitation
This song is always coming out of the darkness at me like fireflies. Perfect for creating a coccoon and readying landing gear.
