PVA Tease their return with a remix by GUM & Ginoli (Of POND / Tame Impala)
London trio PVA have teased their imminent return on Soundcloud today with the surprise release of a punchy GUM & Ginoli remix. Jay Watson (GUM) and James Ireland (Ginoli), take their collaboration in Australian psych band POND aside and move beyond this genre, drawing inspiration from house, techno, disco, rock and hip hop. Watson, who is also known for his involvement with Tame Impala, has said of the track: ‘I can’t quite remember where I heard Divine Intervention, trawling Youtube for music I think, but I loved the song and found the band on Instagram, asking them if I could do a remix! I asked James Ireland to help and we tried to keep the spirit of the original and that rad bassline intact, while making it over the top and more electronic’.
PVA’s debut single, Divine Intervention, was released on cult label Speedy Wunderground last December and producer Dan Carey’s mix is built on by Watson and Ireland with the interjection of trigger sounds, additional synth notes and vocal echoing. Other mixes and remixes that GUM & Ginoli have worked on together include tracks for artists such as Paul White, Moodoid, Faux Real and Local Natives. Listen via the link below and turn it up loud.
After playing shows with us in support of The Wants, Dry Cleaning and HMLTD, appearing at Test Pressing Festival last year and set to collaborate further with Bad Vibrations, PVA’s live plans have shuddered to a halt for the same reasons as every other band. As the music industry picks itself up with intentions to carry on, musicians return with new projects and refreshed outlooks, and the optimism of collaborations, remixes and educated statements on some of the issues exposed with this time away to reflect and reevaluate appear.
